What’s Hot

A college education shows a man how little other people know. Education is not preparation for life, education is life itself.
Life moves at twice the normal speed on campus. You might be in the first year now but in the blink of an eye it will be time to graduate. These three-four years are the best of your life and they come only once. So, the last thing you need after graduating after is to look back with regrets at the things you didn’t do in college. I’ve prepared a to-do for you to do in college:
1.       Go for a batch trip: You might get to go on a world trip after graduating, but it might not be as special as a trip with your batch mates. Even if it is the nearby hangout place or a nearby town. It is a great opportunity to make new friends.

2.       Represent your college: Be it debating, singing, dancing, quiz, creative writing, poster painting, soccer or any other contests…. Represent your college at fests at least once. Getting the chance s a matter of great pride. And the memories- the fun, the fights, the tears, the bonding, the professionalism- will be some of the best you will ever have.

3.       Learn something useful and fun in college: Like dancing, a new programming language or even a part time job. It is never a bad thing to add more things to your resume. Is it?

4.       Experience hostel life: You might miss the delicacies your mother cooked for you every weekend and you might hate washing your own clothes but you might gain a whole new family for the rest of your life. Those who don’t need to stay in the hostel should hang out with their friends in the hostel for a slice of that DIY (DO-IT-YOURSLF) action.

5.       Do an internship:  Make use of the free time during term breaks by doing an internship. It is the best way to find out if you are actually cut out for the career you think you want, it lets you experience a workplace by providing for a more informed choice and at same time adds to your resume.

6.       Learn a new language: Get off your lazy bum and get yourself enrolled in a language class. It is not just a great way to spend your spare time but a great addition to your resume. This is the best time to learn it because you never know when you will get this much of free time.
7.       Visit the college library: This is a must- at least once- unless you want to spend the rest of your life knowing that there is a part of your college you have never been to.

8.       Hang out with your college professor: Getting to know a whole new ‘cool’ side of your professor who you had thought of to be cranky and boring is something very few get to experience. But it is definitely everyone should try doing in college.

9.       Read great books and watch inspirational movies: Lots of these have to be read and watched, even good if the books are philosophical and the movies documentary. They not only improve your creative writing but also helps your brain to think out of the box and even tear it down!!
10.   Write a diary or maintain a blog: A diary or a blog written by you about the daily happenings of your college life. Your kids can read it and think how interesting (or boring!)  Life their father or mother had lived. And if it is an inspiring and truly interesting one you can even convert it into a book.

11.   Ask the girl or boy you have always liked out on a date: Getting rejected is better than regretting not having taken the chance. At least take a shot. If you get turned down, trust me, you aren’t the first person to get rejected and neither will you be the last one.
12.   Do something great: What a great feeling it is when you speak highly of one of your great achievements in college on a reunion or suddenly an old college friend bumps into you and doesn’t stop praising you. Your friends will be left jaw-dropped and you wife flattered. So, try to do a great thing in your college.

This is the to-do list you try to complete and see your way to success. If you have something to add to this list please comment or contact me. Lots of love and enjoy reading.

A university is just a group of buildings gathered around a library. - Shelby Foote
These are a few lessons I have learnt and experienced in my four years of college and hostel life.

Philosophical lessons:

1.       There is something for everyone: School is where the cliques are. In college people are a lot more chilled out, everyone has something that they can do, whether it is chatting with friends, playing cards, great computer skills or high management qualities. No one is an “outcast.”

2.       Live and let live: by the end of four years in college, you know that you cannot please everyone. Neither can you expect them to behave like you would want them to do. The sooner you learn this, the more peaceful your college life will be.

3.       You may not be the one you thought you were: college will help you discover part of your personality that you never thought have existed. It’s all about learning and unlearning things. You may have a clear-cut idea about how you wish to spend your days when you enter college, but trust me, the plan never works.

Don't dare to fool your Professors

4.       Don’t pretend: four years is a lot of time to know others and to see right through those who are pretentious. Pretending to be someone else you are not doesn’t take you too far

5.       The friends you have when you leave college are the ones that matter: when you join college, your group consists of about 15 ‘good’ friends, but by the end of it, you will be left with 6 or even less of them.

Real- Life Lessons:

1.       You cannot fool your professors. They have seen hundreds like you. They do this for a living and can see right through you.

2.       There are tons of ways to have fun. Getting sloshed puking through the night is not the only one of them.
3.       It’s okay to refuse something. And most often unlike popular belief nobody pressurize you. Even if you are around people who try to coax you into doing something you don’t like, be assertive and say “no”. Don’t cave.

4.       Coffee is your best friends before exams.

Coffee is your best friend during EXAMS!!

5.       Your best friend from fifth semester might not be your friend in the sixth semester.

6.       Network. It always helps if you know a lot of people.

Practical Lessons:

1.       Never have alcohol on an empty stomach.

No Alcohol

2.       Always remove your make-up before going to sleep. Especially if you have a friend staying over who has a habit of taking sneaky pictures.

3.       Always check for your phone and purse before leaving a friend’s house or a party.

4.       Canteen food everyday will not only burn a hole in your pocket but also in your stomach as well. Bringing food from home occasionally is not a really bad option.

A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car; but if he has a university education, he may steal the whole railroad.- Theodore Roosevelt
Nothing can beat or bring back the feeling of the first day you step into your college, your home for the next few years. There is a little bit of nerves and a whole lot of anticipation for those stepping out of the comfort of their schools into a whole new world that is college. But this is also the time when you discover new things, make new friends and have a whole lot fun. Here are a few reasons why first year in college is the most special:
1.       After school, college is like a breath of fresh year: no fixed uniform, no bar on coloring your hair or showing off the tattoo you’ve got. The new found freedom in college is an amazing feeling.
2.      You get pampered by your seniors: being the junior-most has its perks. You get pampered by seniors ready to show your ropes, give advice regarding classes, as well as occasional treats. Ragging is a thing of past (on most campuses), thanks to the strict laws, so there is nothing to be afraid of.

3.      Teachers mark your answer scripts quite leniently: for a change, most teachers are quite benevolent with marks, allowing you to settle down, unlike in the second or third years.
4.       You can get away with a lot of things: the leniency of some teachers also carries over to ignoring things like bunking classes and playing on your phone in class. All the rules, whether carrying your ID cards or adhering to the dress code (for some colleges), are a little more lax for the first few months because you are new.
5.       You have two more years before you must focus on your future: once in college, you can afford to relax for the first year before the pressure of internships or learning new languages or choosing a career path. The board exam is usually tough, so for a change take break from your worries.
6.      Canteen food will still taste delicious: you will fall in love with the canteen food to the extent that you will treat your friends on your birthdays at canteen instead of at KFC. However, by the time you are in third year…well, let’s not spoil it for you guys.
7.     You like everybody in college (well, almost): the first year is paradise when it comes to friends. You hardly know each other to start clan wars. Enjoy it. In time you’ll find out who your true friends are.

Lots of Love and enjoy reading...

Why First Year Of The College Is The Best!!!!
